Why We Love Our Mowers
Basically, mowers are designed to cut grass and snow throw. Mowers mow our lawns, are responsible for tending our farms, and clear our forests. The invention of the mower has reduced the back breaking labor of beautifying our landscape to easy and efficient work.
There are many kinds of mowers — some of which can be easily converted for other purposes, like snow blowing! There are electric lawn mowers, riding lawn mowers and robotic lawn mowers. There are so many models and varieties of those models that it is possible, with a little research, to find one that fits your needs perfectly!
Makers of Mowers
There are many, many manufacturers of mower decks and accessory parts. Some companies specialize in parts, some specialize in the engines and some do both. Tractors, lawn mowers and other mower styles are built by some big-name companies — some that only produce mowers, some that manufacture all kinds of engine products! Some names are easily recognizable, like Honda, John Deere, Yamaha, Ford, Troy-Bilt and Kubota. Honda is well known for its engine manufacturing in general, whatever the product. Other important names are MTD, Ariens, B&H Manufacturing, Texas, Snapper, Rover Mowers Ltd., LawnBoy, Klippo and Greenfield Motors. This is not a definitive list, but they are important names to consider when making a mower purchase.
Styles of Mowers
Mowers can be subdivided and grouped into many different categories. There are lawn mowers, tractors, riding mowers, bloggers and mulching mowers. Some are reel mowers and others are rotary. Reel mowers are considered superior because of the even, fine quality of the cut grass.
Major manufacturers like Toro and LawnBoy have designed innovative electric cord and cordless mowers, some of which are even powerful enough to mulch! Tractors and mowers come in a wide variety of sizes and model styles so that they are well suited for a variety of purposes.
Types of mowers can also be distinguished by the radius of the wheel, the operating procedure, the size of the mower blades, the width and style of the mower belt, and/or other mechanical parts that aid their usage. It is not necessary to know all the details to find a mower to suit a given need, but it helpful to get familiar with some of these basic categories.
Get the Right Mower for You
