MTD History
MTD, or Modern Tool and Die, Co. is a huge manufacturer and supplier of a wide variety of lawn and garden equipment and parts. MTD was founded in 1932 and for many years, it provided the manufacturing community of Cleveland, OH with parts and supplies.
In 1958, MTD began building yard and lawn equipment, its first model being an 18″ power rotary mower. The company continued to expand, becoming a leader in lawn mowers, garden tractors and other household power equipment. Always looking for ways to branch out and improve, MTD has partnered with many other companies such as Troy-Bilt, Bolens, McCulloch and Yardman. In 1962, MTD purchased a Canadian company, Sehl Engineering, Ltd. It is now known as MTD Canada.
MTD Parts and Accessories
MTD manufactures quality lawn mowers, lawn tractors and other yard equipment. It also makes a huge assortment of accessories, engine parts, replacement parts, tires and decks.
* MTD accessories include: furrowers, bumpers, snow ploughs, baggers, grass catchers and mulching systems.
* Other parts include: driving belts, deck belts, blades (mulching, flat and multi-purpose), decks, deck shells, spindles, quills and brackets.
* Electrical and engine parts include: switches , solenoids, lighting parts, drive pulleys, deck pulleys, idler pulleys, ball joins, pivot bars, and wheel spindles.
* MTD also carries tires and tubes in various sizes to meet customer need.
MTD Mower Models
The MTD 11A-508B752 Yard Machine has a 5-horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine with nice, high wheels. This is a walk-behind model, which is great for small and medium sized yards.
For larger lawns, the MTD 12A-568Q701 is self-propelled with a Honda engine with 12″ high rear wheels. This is an excellent mower, quickly and effortlessly mowing even a very large yard with uneven surfaces.
Both of these models are excellent examples of the quality products from MTD. Very reliable engines, high rear wheels, 22″ cutting deck with side discharge and mulching kits are all standard features of the basic models. MTD also makes riding and automatic lawn mowers and strives to keep ahead of the curve in reliability, customer service and comfort.
